We at the Vandalia Area Historical Society, in conjunction with the Vandalia community, are very excited to share with you our immense enthusiasm associated with our upcoming New Harmonies - American Roots Music Museum Exhibit. The Vandalia Museum was one of six Missouri towns chosen by the Missouri Humanities Council, representing the nation's Smithsonian Institution of Washington D.C., to host this six week exhibit.
Beginning June 27th and running through August 8, 2009, Vandalia will host this exhibit, targeting residents in the northeastern region of Missouri. The exhibit's objective is to celebrate and educate those in attendance about the roots and evolution of American music. The music that emerges is known by names like blues, country western, folk ballads, and gospel. In addition to this exhibit many separate musical events are planned which will be free to the public. Events scheduled at this time are: an Old Time Barn Dance, a Creole Fiddler, Praises to Him Gospel Sing, a folklore band entitled Front Porch Swing, and a special appearance from the rhythm and blues band named The Kansas City Street Band. In addition, numerous musicians from northeast Missouri and our local area will be invited to add to the excitement and celebration..
The Vandalia community, along with northeastern Missouri are very excited to offer those in this region the opportunity to host a sponsorship for this historic event. These sponsorships are being managed by the Vandalia Area Historical Society by offering the purchase of four levels of participation. These sponsorships center around the use of a high quality (13 oz. scrim vinyl) full color banner, embossed with your logo. These banners will be displayed at all musical events during the hosting of the Smithsonian Exhibit. Sponsorships will be differentiated by the size and placement of the banners at the events.
